Enhancing Online Store Search with Automatic Attribute Recognition and Query Improvement
Completion of the project to develop an AI system for advanced e-commerce search
The company Velebit umjetna inteligencija d.o.o. has successfully completed a project aimed at developing an innovative AI system to improve search in online stores. The project was implemented from March 1, 2025 to March 1, 2026.
The goal of the project was to reach the TRL 4 (Technology Readiness Level 4) and demonstrate the technical feasibility of a system that uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing (NLP) to understand complex and imprecise user queries.
During the project implementation, all planned activities were successfully completed:
Project activities and achieved results
A1. Development of a system prototype up to TRL-4
A functional prototype of an AI system for improving search in online stores was developed. The system enables the understanding of complex user queries and the automatic recognition of key attributes and user intent. The result of the activity is the demonstrated technical feasibility of the concept and the system’s readiness for testing in controlled conditions.
A2. Testing and demonstration of technical feasibility
Laboratory testing of the prototype was conducted, confirming that the system accurately and efficiently recognizes relevant attributes and improves the formulation of user queries. These results demonstrate that the concept is applicable in real e-commerce environments.
A3. Innovation cycle management
Throughout the project, innovation progress was actively monitored, key development phases were defined, and a framework for further system optimization was established. The result of this activity is a structured plan for future development and commercialization, along with an assessment of potential market opportunities.
A4. Development of documents for the commercialization of innovation
A market analysis was conducted, and target user segments were defined. The result of this activity is a commercialization plan, including activities related to promotion and intellectual property protection.
A5. Administrative management of the project and visibility activities
All necessary administrative activities have been carried out, including the preparation of narrative and financial reports. The opening and closing articles about the project have been published, ensuring the visibility of the EU co-financing and presenting the contribution of the innovation to the market.
The completion of the project successfully demonstrated the technical feasibility of an innovative system for intelligent e-commerce search at the TRL-4 level. The developed solution represents a significant step forward in improving the user experience of online shopping, increasing the relevance of search results, and creating the prerequisites for a higher rate of successfully completed purchases and strengthening the competitiveness of e-commerce on the international market.
