We hosted a 22# Meetup of ML Pub Club

We’re proud to have our CEO Davor Aničić and co-founder & ML Engineer Ivan Borko as two of the main organizers behind the meetups. Ivan previously led the Data Science Croatia Meetup group and now continues to shape the local ML scene through ML Pub.

The latest ML Pub Club #22 Meetup marked the final meetup before the summer break and drew over 70 attendees, one of the largest turnouts to date. This time, the event was hosted by Velebit AI in the ceremonial hall of the Chamber of Zagreb Craftsmen.

The keynote speaker was Matej Jusup, currently at ETH Zurich and formerly at DeepMind. The topic of the talk was the fusion of Large Language Models (LLMs) and strategic games (primarily chess). During his time at Google DeepMind, Matej worked on developing the first LLM capable of playing chess at the grandmaster level.

He highlighted how integrating search-based planning with LLMs can lead to almost superhuman planning abilities. Drawing on his experience as a silver medalist 🥈 at the Croatian Junior Chess Championship, Matej shared insights into the potential of artificial intelligence in strategic games, but also in real-world applications!

Talks like this and the strong turnout reflect a growing and engaging AI/ML community in Croatia. We’re excited to see the momentum continue. After the summer break, ML Pub Club will return with more expert talks and real-world tech insights.
